Ethan Allen lit up its corner of the Upper East Side as the global home design brand previewed its vision of “The New Eclecticism” at a VIP champagne reception co-hosted by Hearst Magazines.

An eclectic group of top New York interior designers, leading style and design bloggers, and curious clients mingled throughout Ethan Allen’s newly restyled flagship Design Center.

“The New Eclecticism reflects the way people are mixing it up today to create their own style,” said Ethan Allen CEO Farooq Kathwari in his address to the crowd. “And it’s just the first step in our leap from furniture to fashion.”

The buzziest attractions of the evening (beyond the spiced vodka cocktails at the bar) were the eclectic window and floor displays created by VIP guest bloggers Christine Cameron of My Style Pill, Nicole Gibbons of So Haute, and Suzanne and Lauren McGrath, the agenda-setting mother-daughter team behind Good Bones, Great Pieces.

Looking on, Newell Turner, editorial director of the Hearst Design Group, put his own spin on The New Eclecticism: “It’s all about mixing high and low and using pieces that can stay with you a lifetime.”

With the reception in full swing, Radi Rost, manager of Ethan Allen’s Manhattan flagship, paused long enough to say, “The New Eclecticism is fine design that’s not afraid to have fun.”
