A cluster of new homes that are being built near Lincoln will need just a third of the energy used by homes built in the area in the 1980s.

Properties in Roman Fields - in Witham St Hughs - have a raft of efficiency and water-saving features that consumers will enjoy in the coming years.

Construction firm Taylor Whimpey has stated that new owners of the houses can therefore make "big savings" on their energy bills in the long run, as well as being more environmentally friendly.

Dozens of the two, three and four-bedroom homes have been built just off Juniper Way and they are part of a new wave of homes that have been built by the firm with eco-friendly features at the heart of them, the Lincolnshire Echo reports.

The new houses include high efficiency boilers and central heating systems, as well as low energy lighting which will help to make the energy bills a little smaller each month.

More and more people are looking towards ceiling spotlights that use less energy as well as being much brighter in the home, which is sometimes much needed throughout the winter.

Taylor Whimpey stated that homes require around 20 per cent of the energy needed to heat a similar property from the 1930s and just 30 per cent of houses built in the 1980s.

Technical director of Lincoln-based environmental consultancy Delta-Simons Roger Griffiths said more architects are beginning to push the boundaries when it comes to delivering energy savings on new properties.

Managing director at Taylor Whimpey East Midlands Dominic Harman commented: "All of our customers will find that it makes perfect economic sense to choose a brand new Taylor Wimpey home, thanks to the wide range of measures built in to every single one of our properties which help to reduce both energy and water consumption costs."
